The opening of the H. RICHARD SONIS AND NANCY S. K. SONIS COLLECTION, held Jan.9th. The Collection features the art, acquired over a period of 40 years,  of 26 Barbadian artists including Fielding Babb, Ras Akyem Ramsey, Ras Ishi Butcher, Jill Walker and the late Francis Griffith. Thanks to the generosity and vision of the Sonis' gift to the nation, these works have been returned to the island and represent a significant part of the development of Art in Barbados in the second half of the 20th century. During the ceremony, it was announced by Dr. Trevor Carmichael Q.C., President of the Society, that an offer of sponsorship was generously made by Hon. Consul for Barbados in Germany, Mrs. Regine Sixt, along with her husband, Erich.  Their generosity will result in the Collection being exhibited in Europe at some time in the future.
