Christmastide and the Glory of the Sea

Okay so first of all a very warm Christmas greeting to all!  Second of all, this blog post was very hard work, comprising visits to the Careenage in Bridgetown both this morning and just before sunset this evening.  Add to the mix the fact that there have been only a few posts from me in as many months...I'm out of practise!  Still the Christmas light was merciful and the struggles with post-processing and organising these images to make them all of a piece was difficult.  Lots of confusion and mental cobwebs to say the least!  This post is for anyone with a love of the sea and sailing.  This is just a peek at a few of the beautiful classic yachts that just crossed the Atlantic in this year's Panerai Transat Classique and a few images of Historic Bridgetown.  There are few words that adequately describe these works of art, ocean-going vessels, many over 100 years old.  The winner in this particular race (the regatta appears to comprise a number of races throughout the year) was "White Dolphin" which features prominently in these images.  Over 40 of these yachts made the crossing and I hope to get some more images of them in the days to come, though not at such close distances: The majority are moored in Carlisle Bay, just south of the careenage.  All the best!

First shoot since August!

Its hard to believe so much time has passed since my last real photo safari, time spent largely trying to make and publish a book of photography ("Peripatetikos" - A Wanderer's View of the Island of Barbados  This morning's shoot was prompted by a friend and colleague who is new to digital photography and suggested we make the occasional photo safari together to share notes and knowledge.

After such an improbable amount of time away from regular posting, I cobbled together this post from a meager selection of images, painfully aware that the time spent at the computer has affected my photography.

I do enjoy hearing your comments, though I would rather your indulgence with this particular set of images, which are more of a record of effort than a showcase...

Announcing "Peripatetikos" - My first Photo Book!

The Built Atlanta...

Its been over a month since my last post so my apologies if you've been wandering what I've been up to.  This post should explain.  Largely architecture, the images here cover most of the month of September.  In a city like Atlanta the vast amount of contemporary architecture is hard to ignore and so I've had my fill.  My one regret is the speed of my endeavours, precluding as it did, any meditative approach.  Still, there are some interesting images and I hope you think so too.

Atlanta by iPhone - re-posted

Trying to post my images by phone turned out to be more difficult than I realised, meaning that a number of people on my normal mailing list were omitted.  So here, for the first time, but posted elsewhere twice, are my iPhone images from a recent visit to Atlanta (and a couple from Minneapolis).  Again I must offer my apologies if this is, in fact, the second (or third) time you have received this post!  I have done this for the benefit of the majority of my viewing audience who never saw them. Besides, there are a good few more here than were in the original post.
