Celebrating Casuarinas

These trees are plentiful in Barbados, especially at the seashore where they have long been used to stem the ravages of beach erosion.  For me they have always been of one nature with the wind...rooted in early childhood memories of windy seascapes marked by the swaying casuarinas and wild East Coast Ocean.  The Casuarinas too are wild for me, a chaotic sound and unkempt visual.  Photographically reduced to a stilled and silent state they are poetry.

  1. Lovely in black and white. As a light little child I use to climb up to the top of one and sway in the breeze with it...freaking out my mother!!
